On to 2021

This is another of my email series, “The Weekly Mixtape.” To get it on the day you’re supposed to (Tuesdays) in the way you’re supposed to (your email), please subscribe.

Hey There Indiepreneur,

Maybe I shouldn’t have put “weekly” in this newsletter, considering it has been a month since the last update.

The “weekly” is aspirational, though. It’s a goal that I hope to hit, week after week. It’s the beginning of a new year, so I’m hardly the only person setting slightly unrealistic goals (unless that goal is to be stuck at home for months watching way too much Netflix).

2020 was a tough year for a lot of people. 2021 is starting off just like 2020 ended, with all kinds of craziness. Let’s hope that it gets better as more vaccines make it into more arms.

However things go, it’s another 12 months ahead of us. Even if things aren’t looking like many would hope, we still have the opportunity to make the most with what we have.

To paraphrase my wife, if things aren’t going as planned, maybe you need to lower your expectations.

And with that, here’s to a new year. If you have any plans that I can help you with, let me know. If you have a tax question as this weird April comes around, feel free to reach out.

As for me, I’m going to be re-evaluating what success looks like in 2021.

Service Dog Update
It’s been a month since I’ve given this update, and Sherman has gotten bigger…and more annoying. He’s definitely in the teenage years of his doghood.

This means more whining in the middle of the night, something I had hoped we’d gotten through months ago. It means he wants to sniff EVERYTHING on his walk, something that I have to constantly convince him is not his job.

The hardest part about the sniffing thing is that his “oh, a smell” action is the same as “oh, I need to poop” action. So I’m always concerned if I’m pulling him out of a sniff that I’m going to pull him out of a poop. And yes, I’ve done the latter on a few occasions, which means cleaning poop off cement rather than grass. Which I’m learning actually makes a difference.

Also, his sock obsession has yet to abate. He LOVES our socks. Which isn’t great. Especially when they’re still on our feet, which happens much more on these cold winter days. Though I do have to laugh on the occasion I see him outside throwing some rouge sock up in the air and catching it over and over again.

On the flip side of all these tricky teenager doggie-ness, he’s gotten better at following commands. Which is what really matters for his end goal. Assuming he grows out of the sock obsession.
