Introduction and Vision

Welcome to the first post for The Indieprenuer!

As this website fills out, there will be more permanent home for who we are and what we do, but I’ll do a quick take here.

My name is Tim Gordon, and I’m a CPA who discovered quite through accident later in life that I enjoy creative writing. My hopeful cohort is Tyler Hobson, an MBA who ran a recording studio for years.

Our goal is to make that proverbial business deep end more manageable.

Let me explain.

A while ago, Tyler and I were invited to host a series we called “Financial Fridays” at the University of Colorado – Denver in the College of Arts and Media. In talking with students, instructors, and alumni, we discovered that, while the college helped the students hone their craft, it then threw them out into a world that relies increasingly on Independent Contractors.

They went from students to entrepreneurs without any help on how to do the latter!

We’re pivoting our focus, turning our years of business consulting and accounting experience to help those thrown into the business deep end in the creative arts fields.

We’re trying to make this kind of crap easier to handle

Are you an Independent Entrepreneur trying to figure out how the back end of business after landing that first gig? Are you finding success but unsure how to keep things running? Are you overwhelmed by the regulatory and tax burden that you keep stumbling into?

Then stick around! We’re working to be your guide through this treacherous. It’ll take a bit to get everything up and running, but we’re hopeful that once we do, you’ll like what you find.

Our Website Vision

Eventually, this website will include the following pieces:

  • Blog – You’re reading it now! We’ll post helpful articles regularly
  • Newsletter – A regular update on some more in depth discussions and a great way to interact with Tyler and I [Not yet up]
  • Discussion Boards – Work with others in similar fields to help lift each other [In progress]
  • Courses – We’ll host courses that go in depth into setting up and running your business [In progress]

Stick around. It may look sparse now, but in time, we want to develop a vibrant community of Indiepreneurs helping one another.
